Abstract

The interactive mutagenicity of dialkylamines and sodium nitrite was evaluated using the dominant lethal test.  Groups of mice were treated orally with sodium nitrite either alone or in combination with diethylamine and diisopropylamine.  Treatment with sodium nitrte and dialkylamines resulted in the induction of dominant lethal mutation.  Howver, when the mice were given ferrous sulfate heptahydrate after treating with dialkylamines and sodium nitrite, the interactive mutagenic effect of the dialkylamines and sodium nitrite was reversed.  The stability constants of diethylamine - and diisopropylamine - iron (II) complexes were also evaluated to verify whether the effect brought about by the introduction of ferrous sulfate .......
